Sean Rogister
CEO

Sean has more than 20 years of experience leading investment teams in fixed income strategies that included private lending exposures in emerging and developed countries around the world.

Having built and led investment management businesses at world-class financial institutions, most notably managing the fixed income asset class for Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan ($100 billion plus fund). Sean possesses a global and institutional perspective as well as possessing the unique knowledge base of how to manage a successful debt-based investment strategy.

In his role as CEO at Cortland Credit, Sean oversees the investment management while ensuring the integrity of the firm’s policy is grounded on Cortland’s core beliefs.

Bruce Sherk
President, COO

Bruce brings extensive implementation and leadership expertise as a private-debt management executive with over 25 years’ experience to the role.

He was co-founder and President of Nexcap Finance Corporation, specializing in providing financing solutions for end-users and distributors of capital equipment.

With his extensive experience in the development and implementation of systems and processes for tracking and reporting data, Bruce plays a key role at Cortland Credit leading the origination platform as well as managing the operation aspects of the Firm. Along with Sean, he drives the company’s growth strategy, ensuring a sound and effective business is maintained for their clients.

James Kelly
Managing Director, Business Development

James is responsible for building institutional and consultant relationships for Cortland Credit Group’s investment management business.

James has more than 30 years of industry experience. Before joining Cortland, he was Senior Vice President, Institutional Sales at AEGON Capital Management. Prior to that, he was a Senior Partner with a leading third party institutional sales and marketing firm representing global asset managers. James was at RBC Capital Markets for 22 years and was Managing Director, Head of Fixed Income Sales.

Paul Butler
CCO

Paul is a senior level executive who possesses a wide array of operational, planning and change leadership experience gained in over 20+ years in the asset management industry gleaned while working at leading Canadian financial institutions.

With expertise in both the distribution as well as manufacturing aspects of the investment business, Paul brings Cortland a unique perspective in both the areas of operations and fund administration.

In his role as CCO, Paul is responsible for overseeing and managing the firms’ compliance program as well as liaising with the securities regulators.

Karen Joly
Operations Manager

Karen’s background includes staff and leadership positions as an operations and administration professional with several successful organizations spanning over 25 years in the Canadian leasing industry. Through the various functional channels making up her background, including Lease Administration, Accounting, Credit & Risk as well as Sales & Marketing, she brings deep expertise to her role.

Jeff Mesina
Director, Originations

At Cortland, Jeff is responsible for originating new alternative financing investment opportunities for the Cortland platform, as well as conducting due diligence on potential investment opportunities.

Jeff has more than 15 years of industry experience, most recently in a similar role at a Toronto-based hedge fund. In addition, Jeff has held positions at several boutique investment banks, asset management and wealth management firms.

Andrew Branch
Director, Business Development

Andrew joined Cortland in October 2018 and brings with him over 10 years of experience in various client relationship and business development roles in the financial services industry.

As Director of Business Development, Andrew is responsible for all wholesale sales-related activities and dealer relations for Cortland Credit Group Inc.

In 2016 Andrew achieved his CIM designation and continues to pursue further professional development. He is a Ryerson University graduate with a Bachelor of Commerce, specializing in Finance.

Annette Janson
Controller

Annette Jansen joined Cortland as the Controller in 2017. She prepares all the accounting work and plays a lead role in the preparation of audited financial statements.

Annette brings more than 25 years experience in accounting, audit, tax, and financial business experience to her role having gained extensive experience through senior accountant and management roles for a variety of public and private leasing companies in Canada.

She received her CGA designation in 1999.

Brandon Rogister
Associate Portfolio Manager

Brandon Joined Cortland Credit in 2016 after graduating from the University of Guelph with a specialization in Economics. Brandon began at Cortland as the Business Development Analyst – supporting the Managing Director, Business Development with marketing material, client onboarding, and relationship management. Additionally, he also supported the credit analytics of public and private securities.

As Associate Portfolio Manager, Brandon supports the Portfolio Manager and is responsible for the research, analysis, and valuation of current and prospective public and private fixed income securities held in Cortland’s funds.

Alex Preobrazenski
Associate Portfolio Manager

Alex is a graduate of the BBA program specializing in Finance at Wilfrid Laurier University and he has passed Level 3 of the CFA Exam. He has held positions at Canaccord Genuity Wealth Management and Caldwell Investment Management with roles that surrounded both compliance and investment due diligence.

At Cortland, Alex focuses on monitoring portfolio holdings, conducting credit and risk analysis and performs due diligence on potential investment opportunities.

Luke Hawthorn
Associate, Business Development

Luke is a graduate of the University of Manchester (UK) where he specialised in Politics and Economics. Prior to joining Cortland Luke held positions at Mazars LLP UK, a global financial services and consulting firm, where he provided financial advice to corporations and High Net-Worth Individuals.

Luke’s role as Associate, Business Development focuses on client servicing, relationship management and the production and maintenance of Cortland’s marketing materials.

He has completed the Canadian Securities Course and holds the Diploma in Regulated Financial Planning for providing investment advice in the UK
